Bio
A little old, a little decrepit, but generally fun loving amiable guy, those who know me may (or may not!) testify to that.

Being a Lancastrian (born and bred in Bolton lol), living in Yorkshire has been an education ;-) From Jan 1998 to New Years Day 2006 I lived in Sheffield. 7 years fully employed, 1 year unemployed. Now I have come to my senses and in full gainful employment for the past 3 to 4 years, however I still work in Sheffield :-/ and have moved back to Sheffield after 3 and a half years in Chesterfield with my former partner.

At age 19 I got my first taste of freedom ;-) escaped to Leicester Polytechnic for 2 years to study for my Higher National Diploma in Applied Biology, realising I was a bit of a smart ass I followed that up with two years studying for my degree in Biological and Biochemical sciences at Salford Uni (yep you read right…2 years!). Cocky as hec I followed that up with the most tortuous thing known to man…An Msc. This was obtained after a year of hell at Aberdeen University studying Clinical Pharmacology. The course, not the place made it hell!

What followed then was tedious work in the nasty corporate world....ho hum! I am sarcastic on a daily basis, cynical of the whole world and according to my best friends I am as mad as a hatter! However, if you need a biological, clinical pharmacological, non-religous, all round general scientific viewpoint, then feel free to give me a holler! Unless your a Daily Mail/Fail reader...in which case FCUK OFF!

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" - Douglas Adams

During Professor Hawkings speech in Washington, the Cambridge University professor told his audience that he had been thinking a lot about the cosmic question, "Are we alone?"
The answer, he concludes, is probably not. But if there is life elsewhere in the Universe, he asked, why has humanity not stumbled onto some alien broadcasts in space, maybe something like "alien quiz shows?"
One possible reason is that there is no life elsewhere. Or maybe there is intelligent life, but when it gets smart enough to send signals into space, it also is smart enough to make destructive nuclear weapons, he said.
But Professor Hawking prefers a third option: "Primitive life is very common and intelligent life is fairly rare," he said, before quickly adding: "Some would say it has yet to occur on Earth."
